Obama's Class Warfare Strategy Applied Again

White House using class warfare to sell health reform plan
By MITCH ALBOM • Free Press columnist • July 25, 2009

In explaining why it was OK to sock a new 5.4% tax on the highest earners in this country — to pay for health care reform — President Obama’s press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said this:

“The president believes that the richest 1% of this country has had a pretty good run of it for many, many, many years.”

Ah. So that’s it. The old “You’ve had it good enough for long enough” policy. That’s why a family earning a million dollars a year should now cough up $54,000 of that — in addition to all the other taxes it pays — to cover health care for people who may not pay a penny of new tax themselves.

Because, after all, those rich folks have had a pretty good run of it.

Now, it is not that I don’t think we need health care reform. We do. It is not that the rich should not pay fair taxes. They should.

But to justify a grossly overweighted tax by saying “You people have had it good long enough” is to engage in the worst and most destructive form of politics: class
warfare.

By making a snarky comment like that, Gibbs suggests that the top 1% are a bunch of Bernie Madoffs, that they’ve been scheming their way to riches, evading the system, hiding their money in complicated offshore deals. You know — wink, wink — they’ve had it “pretty good.”

This is every bit as insulting as saying all poor people are lazy welfare cheats. Imagine the uproar if he’d said that. What’s the difference?

Both are dangerous lies.

One nation, taxes for all

For a moment, let’s take Gibbs and Obama at their words. “A pretty good run of it for many, many, many years.” OK. In what way? Did those people earn their money? Yes. Did they work for it? Yes. So in that regard they are no different than a schoolteacher or postal worker. They worked, they got paid.

Presumably, then — unless he’s suggesting they’re all crooks — when Gibbs says “a pretty good run of it” he means in taxes. Hmm. Let’s see. Those high income earners currently shell out around 35% in income taxes, the highest rate, plus state income taxes, local income taxes, property and other taxes that likely chew up between 45% and 50% of their money. If Obama’s tax-related plans all go through, it could, for some, approach 60%.

How is that a “pretty good run”? It’s clearly a bigger chunk than poor people pay. In fact, those evil one-percenters pay about 40% of all income tax in this country.

So if they’ve had a pretty good run, so has the other 99% of the country that’s been using their money.

Look. It would be one thing if we had a flat tax in the United States or if you could shelter your income or hide it offshore. But most wealth experts will tell you tax shelters for individuals are long gone, and offshore is a rapidly disappearing corporate trick.

For the most part, if you earn a lot of money in America today, you have to pay your taxes on it. Capital gains are taxed at a lower rate, but in most cases, before you have money to buy and sit on stocks, you have to earn it and therefore pay taxes on it.

Watch what you say

On the other hand, would you tell people who pay no taxes that they’ve had a pretty good run? Would you say it to people who never really look for work, who don’t bother in
school, who look for ways to live off the state?

Yet all such people, under Obama’s plan, will get health care — paid for by those lousy, conniving rich people. And please, let’s not imagine that all poor people are noble single mothers with two jobs, three kids, good credit and an ailing mother. Unless you’re naive enough to believe that all wealthy Americans are greedy pigs.

You don’t get a country behind you by pointing fingers. And you don’t inspire effort and ingenuity by always milking the rich. Suggesting that if Americans do too well they’ll be resented is not how this country became a prosperous nation. After all, the dream of being rich is often being dreamed by the poor.

Mr. Gibbs and President Obama should realize they are no longer only speaking to rooms full of giddy campaign volunteers. It’s the nation. All of us are in this together. That means poor and yes, rich — if there are any left once this is all done.

The Beer Summit

Is it me or is The Beer Summit one of the most ridiculous Presidential news stories ever to make the news? I mean seriously it has to be. Of course the answer is Yes. As I watched Obama, O'Biden, Crowley and Gates in the staged setting of a couple of regular Joes sitting around having a beer all I could think was Crowley was the only regular Joe there.

This was, after all, all about Obama. He stepped in it. He knew it. Once again, his fragile ego couldn't handle it and he had to dig his hole deeper. This is exactly why the real heroes who made this country great can only sit back in stupefying awe of just how ridiculous this President is.

Obama was always the story for getting involved in a law enforcement detail because his dear Harvard buddy was in the mix. "You don't know who you messed with!" Yes, the cries of elite individuals blinded by their own thirst for power. It is a shameful display of our Presidential Office. Obama looks silly and the whole thing is embarrassing.

Obama continues to make a mockery of the office while ramming through his radical agenda by standing before the American people as he always has with his charming bag of lies. His campaign promised the world, literally. Unfortunately the campaign continues and people are starting to catch on to the empty rhetoric, the finger pointing and the lies. As soon as the beer runs out he'll be able to get back to running this great country into the ground like he has been. The way things are going his smile just might wear and it can be Miller Time for everyone.

Remember this, Sgt. Crowley is the one man in that quartet I would trust to enforce the law. He was the one who acted honorably and fairly. Maybe it was a teachable moment.

Still 1000 pages to go.

I've written my senator, have you? Please don't act "stupidly." Stop the Bill that's as long-winded and damaging as a Reverend Wright Sermon.

An Unraveling Presidency

By Bruce Walker [The American Thinker]

As I noted four weeks ago, Scott Rasmussen's daily presidential tracking poll has shown a very steady increase in the number of Americans who have a "very unfavorable" view of Obama's presidency and a corresponding, though less dramatic, decline in the number of Americans who have a "very favorable" view of his presidency. As of July 27, the negative gap between these two groups of highly motivated voters was ten percentage points. Polls which focus only on softer "favorable" and unfavorable" opinion still appear to keep the Obama Presidency in safe political water, but that is misleading for several reasons.

First, while Republicans were playing dead and the Leftist media were presenting Barack and Michelle on every magazine cover, buying a pet, and all the other oh-so-loveable things that a young family with cute children moving into a new home, no one had given Americans a reason to doubt that the president was a pleasant, well spoken, sensible man. He followed the script well. His conscious attempt to enact an FDR style "One Hundred Days" of change simply overwhelmed all political opposition by a combination of political muscle, timid voices of opposition, and the perception of dramatic popular support.

Now following his umpteenth address to the nation and his frequent press conferences, his pretense of bipartisanship is gone. In short, Obama has descended rapidly from the Magnificent to the Monotonous. He says the same sorts of things over and over again, but there is really nothing new in Obama at all. Throwing vast amounts of tax dollars into the economy, more or less willy-nilly, in an effort to "stimulate" growth is an old, failed policy. His solemn assurances that reforms will not take away, for example, a patient's right to choose his physician, when there are several conflicting versions of health care reform floating around which seem to indicate otherwise, increasingly look like political grease to slide legislation through Congress.

Second, no presidency can be completely scripted. When Iranian people revolt against a truly revolting government, one that lies to its own Moslem voters about election results and shoots women protesters in the streets, what can a man like Obama do? Americans expect leadership, but Obama is in no sense of the word a leader. When a police force that is probably as politically correct and racially sensitive as any in the nation arrests a black professor, Obama makes a sincere, and profoundly silly and dangerous, comment. Inviting the policeman and the professor to the White House for a beer stops the bleeding but does not hide the scar. The more helpless and hopeless Obama appears, the more unhappy Americans will be with him as a leader (his personal popularity, though, will probably remain high much longer.)

Third, as I have noted often in the past, Americans are conservative. The Battleground Poll has put the percentage of Americans who are conservative at around sixty percent. Pointedly, when Ed Goeas after the last Battleground Poll, last November, broke the numbers down even more precisely --What percentage are social conservatives? What percentage are "fiscal conservatives? What percentages of Republicans or independents or Democrats were conservative? -- nothing changed. However the data are examined, Americans are, overwhelmingly, conservative: not moderate, not liberal, not unsure, but conservative. See page 12 and page 13 of the post-election survey.

Fourth, Barack Obama is simply not very knowledgeable, and it increasingly shows. This is not a rap on his intelligence or his efforts in school. Prestigious schools have become, in areas like law and social sciences, little more than re-education camps. His gaffes were ignored by the Leftist media during the campaign. If Dan Quayle had talked about our fifty-seven states, it would have been fodder for late night jokes forever. But the more Obama talks, the more obvious it becomes that he simply knows very little. As an example, he recently said that winning the war on terrorism would not be like World War Two, when Emperor Hirohito signed articles of surrender. Yet as even an amateur student of history knows, Hirohito did not sign the articles of surrender. The famous event on the Battleship Missouri was watched by the whole world. It was recorded on film. The Emperor was conspicuous by his absence. It was rather like last year when Obama talked about "the bomb" that fell on Pearl Harbor or his May 2009 comment about his uncle who helped liberate Auschwitz.

The more Americans see of Obama as president, the more they see a plastic ideologue who is utterly out of step with their vision of America and who lacks the basic knowledge to govern a nation. Republicans have won nothing yet (they must first decide to stand for something and then articulate that position clearly.) It is encouraging that a number of Republican senators have announced they will vote against Judge Sotomayor, taking a principled stand in a losing battle.

It is vital to keep the lines between the parties bright and clear. Our champion, our leader, will come if conservatives show gumption. Few, if any, presidents have been as truly vulnerable as the man in the White House now.

Is America Really Waking Up To The Real Obama?

We've Figured Him Out
By Ben Stein July 24, 2009

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?

Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a "community organizer," Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill -- a great idea in theory -- was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans.

Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama's plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be -- a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.

These are perilous times. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation. Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to "protect us" from global warming, itself largely a fraud if believed to be caused by man.

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms.

There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America.

So how did the majority of American miss the facts about this man? Is the key really "unimaginable kindness and trust," because it is hard to imagine.

A Canadian Perspective On Obama

Obama’s White House is Falling Down
By Daniel Greenfield Thursday, June 11, 2009

In the sixth month of his presidency, Obama has turned an economic downturn into an economic disaster, taking over and trashing entire companies, and driving the nation deep into deficit spending expected to pass 10 trillion dollars.

Abroad, Obama seems to have no other mode except to continue on with his endless campaign, confusing speech making with diplomacy. It is natural enough that Obama, who built his entire campaign on high profile public speeches reported on by an adoring press, understands how to do nothing else but that, ego driven photo op appearances and clueless treatment of foreign dignitaries.

While the press is still chewing over Obama’s Cairo speech, this celebrity style coverage ignores the fact that Obama’s endless world tour is not actually accomplishing anything. Instead his combination of ego driven photo op appearances and clueless treatment of foreign dignitaries have alienated many of America ’s traditional allies. Those who aren't being quietly angry at Obama, like Brown, Merkel or Netanyahu, instead think of him as as absurdly lightweight, as Sarkozy, King Abdullah or Putin do.

While his officials carry out their dirty economic deeds, Obama responds to any and every crisis as if it were a Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland musical, with a cry of, “Let’s put on a show.” Thus far Obama has put on “shows” across America , Europe and the Middle East . And what the adoring media coverage neglects to cover, is that Obama’s shows have solved absolutely nothing. They have served only as high profile entertainment.

Neither alienating America ’s traditional allies, through a combination of arrogant bullying and ignorance, nor appeasing America ’s enemies, has yielded any actual results. Nor does it seem likely to. Islamic terrorism is not going anywhere, neither are the nuclear threats from North Korea and
Iran . While Obama keeps smiling, the global situation keeps growing more grim.

At home, if Obama was elected as depression era entertainment, the charm of his smiles and his constant appearances on magazine covers appear to be wearing thin on the American public. Despite the shrill attacks on Rush Limbaugh or the Republican Enemy of the Weak-- the Democratic party of 2009, is polling a lot like the Republican party of 2008. The Democrats have suddenly become the incumbents, and the only accomplishment they can point to is lavish deficit spending, often on behalf of the very same corporations and causes they once postured against.

The European Union Parliament’s swing to the right cannot be credited to Obama, though doubtlessly some European voters seeing socialist economic crisis management on display in the world’s richest country decided they wanted none of it, but it is part of a general turning against federalism. And Obama’s entire program is dependent on heavily entrenching federalism at the expense of individual and state’s rights. Yet that is precisely his Achilles heel with independent voters who are polling against more taxes and expanded government. And no amount of speeches by Obama can wish away his 18 czars or the national debt he has foisted on generation after generation of the American people. That leaves Obama with a choice between socialism and the independent voter. And thus far he has chosen socialism.

Obama’s tactic of hijacking Bush Administration era policies on the economy and the War on Terror, and exploiting them as Trojan horses to promote his own agenda, have left him coping with a backlash from his own party, as well as general Republican opposition.

His Czars are meant to function as the bones in an executive infrastructure accountable to no one, but a lack of accountability isn't just another word for tyranny, but for incompetence. A functional chain of command is accountable at multiple levels if it is to function effectively. Obama’s White House by contrast is in a state of over-organized chaos, the sort of organized disorganization that undisciplined egotistical leftists naturally create for themselves, complete with multiple overlapping levels of authority and no one in charge but the man at the top, who’s too busy doing other things to actually be in charge.

Dennis Blair as National Intelligence, who collaborated with the Muslim genocide of Christians in East Timor , trying to muscle out the CIA to create his own intelligence network, is typical of the kind of chaos being spawned by every chief in an expanding government bureaucracy working to make sure
that all the Indians answer to him. Similarly the National Security Council wrestling with the State Department, highlighted by Samantha Power getting her own specially created NSC position to butt heads with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, illustrates the state of conflict and chaos in American
foreign affairs. A state of chaos so pervasive that incompetence has now become commonplace, and no one can even be found to double check the spelling of a Russian word that is meant to be the theme of American’s diplomatic reconstruction with Russia , or to pick out a gift for the visiting British Prime Minister.

Meanwhile on the economy, Obama exploited the ongoing bailouts, transforming them from bailouts into takeovers meant to shift the balance of power in what had been a democracy and socially engineer not only corporations, but the lives of ordinary Americans. But the public’s patience with corporate bailouts is at an end, most Americans were never happy with them to begin with, and want them to end. The death of Chrysler at the hands of Fiat and the UAW might look like a victory in the union ranks, but it doesn't play too well outside Detroit . And tacking on CAFE standards that will kill the pickup truck and the SUV will badly erode Obama in the swing states, if exploited properly in 2010 and 2012. Despite the constant media barrage, orchestrated out of the White House, the public is growing disenchanted with the performance of Obama and the Democrats.

With unemployment booming and the economy dropping, the jobs aren't there and the spending is out of control. Republicans today are polling better on ethics and the economy, than the Democrats are. That shows a trend which is likely to register in the mid-term elections in 2010, in the same way that the EU parliamentary elections served as a shock to the system.

In the opposition, Republicans are free to embrace the rhetoric of change, to champion reform and push libertarian ideas about the size and scope of government. In turn all Obama has is his celebrity fueled media spectacle world tour. A charade now serving as a parallel to the depression era entertainment that functioned as escapism in a dour time. But before long, it may be Obama that the American public will want to escape from.

Obama has tried to play Lincoln, Reagan, JFK and FDR-- but in the end he can only play himself, a shallow, manipulative and egotistical amateur who is in over his head, and trying to drag the country down with him. Obama’s White House is falling down and while the flashbulbs are still glittering and the parties are going on in D.C. and around the world, Obama and the Democratic press may be headed for a recession of their own.

Barack's Cops & Beer

Barack Obama has reached down to a lowly (though no longer “stupid”) cop and raised him up to the presidential empyrean: “And I have to tell you that as I said yesterday, my impression of [Sergeant James Crowley] was that he was a outstanding police officer and a good man, and that was confirmed in the phone conversation — and I told him that,” Obama said in his Friday press briefing.

What noble beneficence! What an honor for Sergeant Crowley to be removed from the sweeping White House black list of racially challenged officers! But the selective rehabilitation of Sergeant Crowley carefully lets stand Obama’s
previous indictment of the policing profession as a whole. Nothing Obama said on Friday retracts his previous assertion that it is a “fact that blacks and Hispanics are picked up more frequently and often time for no cause.” That charge is the real outrage of the president’s reckless entry into Cambridge Burglarygate. The back-and-forth over who dissed whom in the Gates-Crowley encounter is, by comparison, a sideshow. Even if Obama announced tomorrow that Sergeant Crowley had in this particular case acted appropriately, his previous assertion that “we” need to “improve policing techniques so that we’re eliminating potential bias” would still be=2 0the ultimate takeaway from this surreal episode.

On Friday, Obama declared that wants to have a “teachable moment” about “relations between police officers and minority communities.” Here’s a good place to start teaching: Expose the
reality of black crime. It is preposterous to talk about urban policing without talking about crime, and yet that is what anti-cop activists, politicians, and reporters have done for years. They focus public attention on police stop-and-arrest data while keeping crime rates carefully off-stage. But nearly everything that the police do, especially in this age of data-driven policing, is a function of criminal behavior. Attend any Compstat meeting in New York or Los Angeles, and you will hear police commanders intently and passionately debating how best to deploy officers to disrupt ongoing crime patterns; race never comes up. And those crime patterns are reported to them most often by law-abiding residents of inner-city neighborhoods who plead in precinct-community meetings for more police protection against drug dealers and thugs, as I have witnessed numerous times.

When liberals and left-wingers ponderously refer to “race” — as in Attorney General Eric Holder’s admonition this February that “we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race,” or as in Obama’s observation in his recent primetime press conference that race remains a factor in the society,” or as in Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree’s scary announcement that Henry Louis Gates Jr. intends to keep the country talking about issues of race and law enforcement — they mean: Let’s talk about white racism and skin color. Here’s another possible way of defining the problem: behavior. The issues that the race industry subsumes under the accusatory rubric of “race,” such as differential arrest or poverty rates, overwhelmingly result today from behavior, not from a reaction to skin color. I’ll be ready to concede that “race” — defined, per Obama, Holder, Ogletree, and Gates, as racism and skin color — remains a significant factor in social outcomes when the same proportion of black children as white children are raised in two-parent, married households without greatly lowering the black poverty rate, or when black crime drops to white and Asian levels without proportionally reducing the black prison population. Until we conduct that experiment, though — which is wholly within the capacity of individuals to do — I’ll remain skeptical that the race activists ’ favorite “race issues” are predominantly the consequence of white Americans’ atavistic bigotry.

Ted Kennedy & National Healthcare

“Quality care shouldn't depend on your financial resources, or the type of job you have, or the medical condition you face,” writes ultra-rich Ted Kennedy in the current Newsweek. No, and why should it? Private enterprise is so 2008. “Every American should be able to get the same treatment that U.S. senators are entitled to.” Yes, and nothing’s too good for our senators! They’re entitled! And if you think you’re actually going to get the same level of care a U.S. senator is entitled to, well, there’s a bridge down by the Al Smith Houses that I can sell you.

Suffering from brain cancer and on the verge of his final ave atque vale, Senator Kennedy is owed nothing less than the nationalization of health care in return for his selfless public service since that day 40 years ago he left Mary Jo Kopechne to drown off Chappaquiddick Island while he huddled with his advisers. The trauma he suffered that day must be unimaginable, but at least he has health care, even if she doesn’t.

Enough Already With The Beer-Drinking, Huggy, Kissy Obama Lovefests

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away, there was a time when men would say very little. Leadership was silent and carried a big stick.

I have an uncle who says very little because he knows the touchy-feely spew the President advocates doesn't work. You can pretend to be an advocate for positive race relations, but to do that you can't have a "portfolio" that includes attending the church of racism as once headed up by Reverend Wright.

This is all once again a case of watch what I do not what I say. Obama inserted himself into the Gates Arrest story in Cambridge and continues to place himself squarely in the story. He also pretends to "stupidly" think most Americans will believe him when he says he wants to do the right thing here and bring everyone together for a beer. I'm sure Sgt. Crowley needed the President's recognition he was a "good" man. I believe he was doing just fine before you got involved, but that's what happens when you deal with people who think they are above it all, professors and presidents alike.

Perhaps someday soon change will come, a change in leadership that is. We need it more than ever, because this young man doesn't have a clue. Change is required in order to stave off certain disaster from happening while the country is in the hands of a man who has the prejudicial answer to events happening far, far away.

Obama Inserts Himself Into Local Headlines Again

If you didn't already know, Barack Obama likes to make the stories about himself. Without having any of the facts, without being in Cambridge, MA, the all seeing eye that is our leader, Barack Hussein Obama managed to know exactly how to respond to the situation. He is an impressive man. Obama knows how to inject race into non-racial issues because that is who Barack Obama is. In roughly one year's time he has managed to make race a topic front and center through his own philosophy and damn it if an opportunity goes by to slam a "typical white person."

It is a troubling pattern. Why don't others see things as they are? Will a percentage of our fellow Americans awaken to the realities of a man that was put in office unworthy to lead our great country. Time will tell.

In the meantime, a police officer, Sgt. James Crowley, doing his job in Cambridge, MA has the leader of the free world that loves the spotlight more than anything breathing down his back, berating his professionalism, integrity and reputation without all of the facts. Sgt Crowley has other ignoramus politicians across the country ready to run him down without any knowledge of the situation. He has no support from his dear Governor Deval Patrick. He has no support from the Cambridge mayor. It's hard enough trying to do the work of a law enforcement officer who puts his life on the line everyday. He doesn't have the US Secret Service to protect him at a call for help. Fortunately, it appears he does have the support of law enforcement. If that goes, we are in serious trouble.

Welcome

Fellow Americans, welcome to You Owe It To Your Country. It's time to get involved.

The Way We Get By

Folks. These are the ones who make it possible. These are the folks President Barack Obama has little regard for in the country he has sworn an oath to protect.

Feel free to play the trailer below or see it for yourself over at Apple iTunes.

These are the great Americans who do it for our country. President Barack Obama wouldn't have a clue. Of course, he's busy being an All-Star at the MLB All-Star Game.

This is the way we get by and as Americans we'll have to get by without a President to lead our great country.
